Extended versions of high quality manuscripts presented at the 4^th Mediterranean Conference on Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence (MedPRAI 2020) are invited for potential publication in a Special Issue on “Emerging trends in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” in Neural Computing and Applications, scheduled for publication in the 3^rd quarter of 2021. In addition to the selected papers from MedPRAI-2020, the special issue is open to all contributions covering the recent advancements in different areas of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

The submitted papers to the special issue will undergo a strict review process and should satisfy the following criteria;

-    Authors may submit extended versions of the conference paper, but they must have at least 30% of new content.

-    The Special issue is limited to a maximum of 12 to 14 papers.

-    Quality and originality in theory and methodology of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence must be highlighted.

-    Each manuscript should not exceed 16 pages in length (inclusive of figures and tables) and must be prepared for publication according to the journal submission guidelines.

-    All submitted papers will be reviewed by at least 2 reviewers.  

-    Papers can also be application-oriented but should demonstrate enough originality with reasonable theory involved.

Submissions are invited in the following topics of interest:

Statistical, structural and syntactic pattern recognition, neural networks, machine learning, data mining, graph-based techniques for pattern recognition, object recognition, signal analysis, image coding and processing, shape and texture analysis, computer vision, robotics, remote sensing, document processing, text and graphics recognition, digital libraries, speech recognition, music analysis, multimedia systems, natural language analysis, information retrieval, biometrics, biomedical pattern analysis and artificial intelligence.

Submission Procedure

Manuscripts should conform to the standard guidelines of the Neural Computing and Applications. Instructions for formatting papers can be found on the journal website. Prospective authors should submit the electronic copy of their complete manuscript via the EM online submission system.

Authors should select ‘SI: Emerging trends in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (MedPRAI 2020)' during the submission step.

• Full paper due: March 20, 2021
• First notification: May 20, 2021
• Revised manuscript (for second review) due: June 20, 2021
• Acceptance notification: July 20, 2021
• Final manuscript due: September 20, 2021
• Publication of the special issue: 3^rd Quarter of 2021 (tentative)
